Happy Birthday to my Best Friend
Dear Laura
It's about 7:30P.M. on our birthday eve. Your out with your kids right now and I have the house all to myself. I'm getting really pumped for our birthday tomorrow and celebrating at one of our favorite restaurants. I still get excited like I did when we were younger, because I always know that I share this special day with my best friend. I hope your planning on staying up until midnight, so we can bring in this 49th birthday right! Some day we won't be able to stay up late, so let's get the jammies and slippers on and watch the clock strike midnight. It's going to be another Friday the 13th birthday. Those have always turned out to be amazing birthday's for us. I think with all the superstition surrounding the date, our expectations have been low which made them that much more fun.
I guess I'm writing this Birthday Wish for you, so you'll Always know, in no uncertain terms, what you mean to me.
Laura, I can truly say, that my journey in this life has been Beautiful because of you. Life has thrown you and I some curve balls and because we have each other, we manage to not only survive, but Thrive. When I was diagnosed with cancer almost eight years ago, as scared as I was, I knew I wasn't alone. I knew my twin sister would be there for me, through thick and thin, and never waiver. My love for you is so strong, that I was glad it was me that ended up with cancer and not you.
Your love for me is so strong...
When the pharmacist told you my medical insurance ran out and I was no longer covered for pain and nausea medication, you went to bat for me. You caused quite a commotion at Health Partners Clinic that day. The poor, unsuspecting pharmacist didn't know what hit him. Though you tried to be strong for me so I could get the needed medication, desperate pleas and flowing tears illuminated your unconditional love for me.
When you hadn't come back to my room with the medication for about twenty minutes, the oncologist had an "aha" moment. She'd seen this happen before and realized that my health insurance probably ran out. She assured me, I would get the chemo drugs I needed to help combat the bad side effects, but added, "there may be some confusion with the pharmacy, you'd better get downstairs and let Laura know we can take care of it." Before I even reached the lobby, I could hear my frightened twin sister, pleading with the pharmacist. "Please, if she doesn't get the medication, she will be deathly ill." Her voice was loud and firm, yet sadly vulnerable. By the time I entered the pharmacy lobby, all eyes and ears were on Laura. I noticed that people were looking at her with compassion, like they'd been in this situation too. Many onlookers had tears in their eyes as they watched my sister fight for me. When I finally reached Laura, I wrapped my arms around her and said with all the love in my heart, "It's ok honey, my oncologist will take care of the medication." You could've heard a pin drop as the people in that lobby witnessed the Unconditional Love of a Sister.
Happy Birthday Laura-I love you with all my heart and soul and can't imagine my life without you.

Ohh Randy-Sorry I was sneaky but truth be told, I didn't even know where my hub was going as I started it. I was practically teary eyed as I was reading this. I can imagine how Laura must have felt that time. Being a twin, too, I understand how important you are to Laura.
I'm following a twin blogger named Judy (JUDY H-J'S Thoughts - A Twinless Twin). A few years ago, she had lost her twin to cancer. Though she never mentioned it on her blog, I believe that she would rather have the cancer than to let her sister suffer. Last December, she lost another sibling. I pray that she would find comfort and peace despite all this.

Sis and I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose my each other. Not a conversation sis and I like to have, but we did when I was sick. I remember how many nights Laura just cried and made me promise not to leave her. I was like, "not if I have anything to do with it." I know that not wanting to leave her helped me get better and fight hard. I would like to follow this twin you speak of, if you think it's ok. I am so glad you and I found each other on our blogs. Thanks so much Caroline-I really appreciate the birthday wish. It was a great birthday but I ate too much at the steak restaurant and was miserable for a couple hours. That's what I get for not stopping when my tummy told me to. LOL

Thanks for all the button pushing pmccray. Yes, our bond is so strong and we are very protective over each other. We try to share our bond with stories because we are a true example of unconditional love. I think our relationship can be very healing for others.

Thanks so much homesteadbound. I think one of the reasons God put us here together is so we can share the incredible twin bond. It must be so wonderful being a twin, I don't know how you can keep from living in the same house, lol. My sister is several years older than me and she really did not ever like me to be truthful because she was jealous of the closeness me and Mom had. May you both live to be 100 at least!
Jackie-It is awesome being a twin and I do live with her. I moved in about 8 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer and she was newly divorced. It's a blast living with my best friend. Thanks so much for reading my tribute to my sis.
How beautiful it is for sisters to care for each other so much. My wife has two sisters that are twins, and they share their home with all their children. What a wonderful way to live. It just feels like a natural thing for Laura and I to live together after all these years since we are both single gals now.

Nothing better to warm my heart than a birthday wish from my Canadian Prince. Laura and I had a really special birthday with her kids. We went to a real swanky restaurant where they valet'd our car and were treated like royalty. It's a well known steak place that is rated one of the top in the state. We all ordered our own steak, appetizer and they brought us free dessert for the birthday. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had. It was called Brandy Chocolate Mousse Cake. They sliced a huge piece for us and we each got our own fork. After dinner we dropped the kids off at their dad's and we planned to go out for a cocktail and some fun but we ate so much, we ended up going home and getting on the pj's. I just read this comment to Laura as she is on face book and would love to be a part of your group there. I may end up being on face book some day but at this point I haven't joined because I know I'd love it and just one more site to get hooked on. Thanks so much for reading my birthday tribute to sis. Your the best Colin.
