Auld Lang Syne and Happy New Year

Happy, Healthy New Year
Here we are on the brink of another new year. I always get a bit sentimental and nostalgic on New Years Eve as we look back at the previous year and look forward in hope, to a new one. I want to wish all my dear HubPages friends, a Happy and Healthy New year and thank you for your love and support here.
As many of us celebrate ringing in of the New Year tonite, I thought it would be fitting to put up a video and lyrics of the Auld Lang Syne song. Whether your sitting at home on New Years Eve and watching Dick Clark's Rockin Eve celebration or going out on the town, you will most likely hear the infamous song, Auld Lang Syne. The song was written by a Scottish poet by the name of Robert Burns in the eighteenth century. It's well known for ringing in the new year as the clock strikes midnight but this song is used for other occasions as well.
God Bless you all and have a wonderful and safe New Years Eve. I'll be bringing in the new year with my best friend and twin sister, as we watch Dick Clark's Rockin Eve special. It's tradition to put out a delicious buffet of our favorite finger foods that we graze on throughout the evening. So far, we've always made midnight.
Lyrics to Auld Lang Syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Your finger foods sound delicious, Linda! I hope that you have a very a happy 2012.
My favorite foods have always been finger foods--I'm a big fan of oysters of any kind. My Dad calls me his little "grazer" because I would rather munch finger foods all day long than eat a full sit-down meal!
Hoping you and your family have a wonderfully happy & healthy 2012 Linda!
Happy New Year and of course Huge Love Filled HubHugs~

Hi MT - nice to hear from you and very happy New Year to you as well!
I do get sentimental as well at New Year, not just for the year that has passed but for the memories of many years that have now gone. As Rabbie Burns says - for auld lang syne - is the best reason to remember and celebrate!
I loved your finger foods - what a great mixture and so many delicious flavours!! Great hub + voted up!
It's all good. I sure hope 2012 is a vast improvement over 2011. Of course, we get to give the Obama's the boot this year so they can go vacationing and golfing on their dime and not ours.

Hope this year makes all your wishes come true! We always spend a quiet New Year at home.
New Years Eve is a special night and a whole new year is ahead of us. I wish you a great and happy 2012. I loved the video and the finger food!

Happy New Year Linda..Yummy finger food..Thank you..
I never knew all the words to this song. It always drove me crazy that I didn't know them because I love to sing. What a great post!! I hope that 2012 brings you Health, Happiness, and many Blessings! Cheers, Jenn.
MT, "Auld Lang Syne" is one of my favorite songs, although I also love "The Parting Glass," which is Ireland's equivalent. I have lovely memories of my mum and her sister singing "Auld Lang Syne" with their beautiful voices to welcome so many new years as I grew up.
Your New Year's treats are temptingly delicious! I'm consuming them vicariously. Oyster stew was always savored in my family for special occasions such as New Year's Eve. Vegetables with spinach dip and celery with cream cheese sprinkled with paprika are both tasty treats, wonderful for gliding into the next year.
Just as you associate oyster stew with your dad, I associate it with my mother. I wish that I knew what my dad's favorite food was; sadly, he passed away in my 10th year. I remember that he made the best fudge ever, and we used to welcome the next year with his fudge recipe.
Here's to that cup of kindness throughout life!
Ah Robert Burns. Gotta love a poem that promotes partying. Nice Hub :)
